Key Trends Impacting EV Scooter Sales This Month
The Indian electric two-wheeler market has grown into one of the fastest evolving segments in the country’s automobile industry. As the nation shifts towards cleaner and greener mobility, electric scooters are becoming the preferred choice for daily commuters. In the first half of September 2025, retail sales data from the government’s Vahan Dashboard highlighted that a total of 42,278 electric scooters were sold between September 1 and September 15. While the numbers remain strong, the sales graph showed moderation compared to earlier months because of seasonal factors and supply-chain challenges. Still, leading OEMs like TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Hero, and Ola continued to dominate, collectively accounting for more than 95 percent of the total market.
EV Two-Wheeler Sales Performance (September 1–15, 2025)
During this 15-day period, TVS Motor Company emerged as the leader in the electric scooter segment, retailing around 9,117 units. Its flagship iQube model and newer product launches continue to attract urban buyers looking for reliable range and performance. Close on its heels was Bajaj Auto, which sold approximately 8,040 units. Bajaj recently overcame earlier production delays caused by supply constraints and has now regained the second spot, thanks mainly to the strong acceptance of its Chetak EV.
Ather Energy followed in the third position with sales of about 7,225 units. Ather has been strengthening its foothold with premium scooters and the recently launched Rizta series, which appeals to family buyers and tech-savvy youth. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp registered sales of over 5,000 units of its Vida electric brand, signaling growing trust in its expanding EV network. Ola Electric, once the top seller, also crossed 5,000 units in the same period but faced intensified competition from traditional OEMs that are now catching up rapidly in this space.
Altogether, the Top 10 OEMs sold around 40,064 units, representing nearly 95 percent of all sales in the first half of the month. The rest of the brands combined contributed a very small fraction, showing that consumer preference is concentrated among a few well-established players.
Top Electric Scooter Brands and Market Share in India
The ranking of OEMs in September’s first half highlighted the evolving competitive landscape. TVS secured about 22 percent of the market share, emerging as the most trusted brand during this period. Bajaj’s recovery brought it close behind TVS, indicating that demand for the Chetak EV remains solid when supply bottlenecks are resolved. Ather Energy, though slightly behind in numbers, continues to dominate the premium electric scooter category, with its products known for strong performance, connected features, and better ride quality.
Hero MotoCorp is strengthening its EV play through wider dealership reach, which is helping the company record consistent month-on-month growth. Ola Electric, despite being one of the earliest leaders in this space, is now facing pressure to innovate further, as rivals are offering equally attractive scooters with strong after-sales support. This dynamic competition is benefiting consumers, who now enjoy a broader choice of models, battery capacities, and price points.
Key Trends Impacting EV Scooter Sales This Month
Several market factors influenced the sales momentum in early September 2025. One major reason for slightly lower numbers was the Shraddh period (September 7–21), during which many Indian buyers postpone major purchases such as vehicles. Cultural sentiment thus impacted deliveries and bookings during the fortnight. Another factor was the shortage of rare earth magnets, crucial for EV motors. Companies like Bajaj had earlier cited supply challenges, but with improved sourcing, production is beginning to stabilize.
On the product side, new launches and upgraded battery packs are driving customer interest. Consumers are increasingly looking at scooters with higher range, faster charging, and reliable battery life. Brands that are innovating in these areas, like Ather with its Rizta, are enjoying stronger demand. At the same time, the approaching festive season is expected to bring a surge in sales as purchasing sentiment improves, especially from Navratri onwards.
Looking ahead, analysts expect overall EV scooter sales in September to cross the 90,000-unit mark, as demand typically spikes in the second half of the month. Government incentives, state EV policies, and better charging infrastructure will also continue to encourage adoption. For the long term, the Indian EV two-wheeler market is forecast to expand steadily, with more traditional OEMs as well as startups bringing advanced and affordable products to the segment.

Seasonal headwinds and supply chain issues impacted the pace, but the industry outlook remains positive as the festive season approaches.
