Tata Motors Delivers First Batch of Prima E.55S Electric Trucks to Enviiiro Wheels
A Milestone in India’s Green Freight Journey
Tata Motors has officially delivered the first batch of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to Enviiiro Wheels Mobility, signaling a strong move toward electrifying India’s heavy-duty transport sector. The handover ceremony took place in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, marking the start of deployment in mineral and ore transportation for Enviiiro Wheels.
This event is not just about handing over trucks—it’s about accelerating a cleaner, low-carbon future for freight in India.
What Is the Prima E.55S?
The Prima E.55S is Tata’s heavy-duty electric prime mover, built for long-haul operations with zero tailpipe emissions. Key specs include:
• Full-electric drivetrain with integrated e-axle
• Regenerative braking to boost range
• Range of up to ~350 km on a single charge
• Dual “gun” fast charging support for quicker turnaround
• Safety & driver comfort features: Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, cruise control, EBS, optional ADAS, a pneumatically suspended seat, tilt-telescopic steering, etc.

Under the hood, it uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, and an automatic electro-pneumatic transmission system, tailored for heavy loads.
In short: it combines range, strength, safety, and driver comfort for demanding logistics operations.

Why This Delivery Matters:
Zero Emissions & Cleaner Air
By replacing diesel prime movers with electric ones, Enviiiro Wheels reduces carbon footprint and particulate emissions in freight corridors. This helps combat pollution in industrial zones and along highways.
Operational Savings & Efficiency
Electric trucks reduce fuel costs, require fewer moving parts, and offer lower maintenance overhead. Faster charging and regenerative systems further enhance utilization and uptime.
Trust Through After-Sales Support
Tata Motors backs its electric trucks with the Sampoorna Seva 2.0 support ecosystem, featuring 3,200+ service touchpoints across India and comprehensive life-cycle management. This infrastructure builds confidence for fleet operators switching to EVs.
Signaling Industry Confidence
Enviiiro Wheels’ move sends a signal to other logistics and mining firms: electric heavy vehicles are now viable. The collaboration helps drive demand, volume, and scale in India’s electric freight market.
Voices from the Key Players
Praveen Somani, Managing Director, Enviiiro Wheels Mobility (and Director, Inland World Logistics), said:
“As a company committed to sustainable logistics, the addition of Tata’s advanced electric prime movers marks a defining step toward decarbonised operations. With zero emissions, strong performance, and comfort features, the Prima E.55S supports our customers’ net zero goals.”
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, added:
“We are delighted to deliver the first batch of Prima E.55S electric prime movers to Enviiiro Wheels. Tata Motors is proud to lead India’s transition to sustainable freight with robust, advanced solutions.”
Their statements reflect shared ambition: cleaner logistics, business viability, and industry transformation.
Challenges & The Path Ahead
While this handover is a major step, some challenges remain:
• Charging infrastructure & grid readiness: Large fleets require scalable charging networks and reliable power supply.
• Cost of acquisition: Electric heavy vehicles still come at a premium; total cost of ownership must favor EV adoption.
• Range & payload tradeoff: For very long routes or extreme payloads, battery capacity limits may matter.
• Fleet operator mindset: Traditional logistics thinking and resale markets are still oriented to diesel.
To overcome these, stakeholders must invest in charging networks, incentives, policy support, and economies of scale.
Looking Forward — India’s Green Freight Future
Tata Motors is already building a “clean fuels” portfolio—battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion, even hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. This first delivery to Enviiiro Wheels is a tangible step in that journey.
If adoption grows, we may see:
• Freight corridors powered by electric highways
• Lower logistics carbon footprints across industries
• Evolution of multi-modal transport models (EV + rail + battery swapping)
• More OEMs entering the heavy EV segment
