Next-Gen Renault Duster & Tata Sierra 2025 Launch in India: Features, Price & More
The Indian SUV market is all set to welcome two highly anticipated models – the new Renault Duster and the all-new Tata Sierra. Both SUVs hold a special place in the hearts of Indian buyers, as they come with strong brand legacy, refreshed designs, modern features, and competitive positioning. While the Renault Duster was once a pioneer in popularizing compact SUVs in India, the Tata Sierra remains one of the most iconic nameplates from the 1990s, now making a comeback in a futuristic electric and ICE avatar. With their upcoming launches, both models are expected to create a strong buzz in the mid-size SUV segment.
Renault Duster – The Comeback SUV
Renault is preparing to reintroduce the Duster in India after discontinuing it in 2022. The new-generation Duster has already been unveiled globally, and the Indian version will be based on the latest CMF-B platform developed by Renault-Nissan. This platform is known for its flexibility and ability to support petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrains, giving the company a wide range of options for the Indian market.
The new Renault Duster will sport a bold and muscular design, featuring LED DRLs, a wider grille, and a more rugged stance compared to its predecessor. The cabin will receive a complete overhaul with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver display, 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in higher trims.
Under the hood, the Duster is expected to get multiple engine options, including a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol hybrid and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol, which has been proven in other Renault-Nissan products. Transmission options are likely to include both manual and CVT/automatic gearboxes. With the growing popularity of hybrids in India, Renault might even offer the strong-hybrid variant, making it a fuel-efficient alternative in the segment.
Safety will be another strong area for the new Duster. Renault has already stated its focus on delivering high Global NCAP ratings for upcoming models. Features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, hill-start assist, and ADAS tech including lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control may be available in the top-end trims.
The pricing strategy will be crucial. Renault is expected to keep the starting price competitive, likely around ₹10–12 lakh (ex-showroom), targeting popular models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. If launched with a hybrid option, the Duster will also challenge Honda Elevate and MG Astor.
Tata Sierra – An Icon Reborn
Tata Motors surprised everyone when it showcased the Sierra EV concept at the Auto Expo 2020, and since then, the SUV has been one of the most awaited launches in India. The Sierra, which was once famous for its unique three-door layout in the 1990s, will return as a modern five-door SUV with both electric and ICE options. This aligns with Tata’s strategy of offering multiple powertrain choices across its portfolio.
The production-ready Tata Sierra has already been spotted testing, and it stays close to the concept design language. Expect sharp LED lighting, a closed-off EV-inspired grille, large alloy wheels, and SUV styling with a futuristic touch. Inside, Tata will equip the Sierra with a premium cabin featuring a large touchscreen system with the latest Tata iRA connected tech, digital driver’s cluster, premium upholstery, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and ADAS features.
In terms of powertrains, the Tata Sierra EV will be based on the company’s Gen 2 EV platform, promising a driving range of 400–500 km on a single charge, depending on the variant. Fast-charging capabilities and V2L (vehicle-to-load) features are also expected. Alongside the EV, Tata is also planning to launch a petrol-powered Sierra to cater to customers who are not yet ready to switch to electric. The ICE variant is expected to get Tata’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic transmissions.
On the safety front, Tata Motors has already set high standards with models like the Harrier and Safari achieving strong Global NCAP scores. The Sierra is expected to follow the same path, offering six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction modes, and advanced ADAS functionalities.
When it comes to positioning, the Tata Sierra is likely to sit above the Harrier, making it a premium SUV offering. Pricing is expected to start from ₹16–18 lakh for the petrol version and around ₹22–25 lakh for the EV version, depending on battery size and features. With this, Tata will target both mid-size and premium SUV buyers, directly rivaling models like Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector, while also offering a unique EV option in the segment.
