Car Sales Report August 2025 – Maruti, Mahindra, Tata, Toyota, Hyundai, MG

Highlights:

Overall, August 2025 showed mixed results, with some brands growing while others saw a month-on-month decline. Mahindra, for example, reduced dealer dispatches due to anticipated GST rate rationalization.

Below is a detailed look at individual company performance:

Toyota:

Toyota India’s cumulative sales grew 11% year-on-year to 34,236 units (29,302 domestic, 4,934 exports). This is up from 30,879 units in August 2024 and 32,575 units in July 2025.

JSW MG Motor:

JSW MG Motor recorded its highest monthly sales in August 2025, reaching 6,578 units, a 52% increase from August 2024 (4,323 units). Sales were slightly below July 2025 (6,678 units). Windsor EV sales rose 5% month-on-month, marking a new high, and Comet EV sales increased 21% due to rising demand.

Tata Motors:

Tata Motors saw a 3% year-on-year decrease in passenger vehicle sales, totaling 43,315 units. Domestic sales reached 41,001 units, exceeding Mahindra’s. Exports increased significantly by 573% year-on-year to 2,314 units. EV sales hit a record 8,540 units, a 44% increase over August 2024. Sales recovered from July 2025’s 40,175 units.

Mahindra:

Mahindra’s domestic passenger vehicle sales dropped 9% to 39,399 units, a notable month-on-month decrease from 49,871 units in July 2025. Cumulative sales, including exports, were 40,846 units. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M\&M Ltd, noted that wholesale billing was intentionally reduced to manage dealer stock before the final GST announcement, aiming to boost festive season demand.

Hyundai:

Hyundai maintained its second position with domestic sales of 44,001 units, down from 49,525 units in August 2024. Exports grew to 16,500 units, resulting in total sales of 60,501 units. Month-on-month sales slightly improved from July 2025’s 60,073 units.

Maruti Suzuki:

Maruti Suzuki experienced a decline, with domestic passenger vehicle sales dropping to 131,278 units from 143,075 units in August 2024. Sales decreased across all segments: small cars (Mini & compact) to 66,450 units, Ciaz sales remained nil, and utility vehicles slid to 54,043 units. Eeco van sales were slightly down at 10,785 units. Super Carry sales increased to 2,772 units. Sales to other OEMs remained flat at 10,095 units. Exports totaled 36,538 units.
