Tata Altroz Facelift Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating — India’s Safest Hatchback

Tata Altroz Facelift Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating — India’s Safest Hatchback

Tata Motors has once again raised the bar in car safety. The Altroz facelift has achieved a full 5-star safety rating from Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (B-NCAP) — both for adult occupants and child occupants. This makes the Altroz one of the safest premium hatchbacks available in India.

What is Bharat NCAP?

Bharat NCAP is India’s standard for crash test safety. It assesses how well cars protect people in real-world accidents. The rating has two main parts:

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) — how safe grown-ups are in front and side impacts. Child Occupant Protection (COP) — how well child seats, restraints, and structure protect kids. A car that gets 5 stars in both categories is considered very safe.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, Altroz scored 15.55 out of 16, showing excellent protection to driver and passenger in front collisions.  In side barrier impact, it scored 14.11 / 16. Head and pelvis protection was strong; the chest protection was marginal and abdomen adequate.  For child safety, with both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies rear-facing in child restraint systems (CRS) with ISOFIX, the Altroz did extremely well. It got 12/12 in CRS installation, and near perfect in dynamic crash scores.

Safety Features

Altroz comes packed with safety features, which helped it get the 5-star rating. These include:

Six airbags as standard.  Electronic Stability Control (ESC) — helps maintain control in difficult driving conditions.  ABS with EBD (Antilock Brakes + Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) for better braking.  ISOFIX child seat anchors — safe and standard child seat fitting.  Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), seat belt reminders for all seats.  Higher variants also get extra features like 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, etc.

Altroz is now the only premium hatchback in India to secure 5 stars under Bharat NCAP across petrol, diesel, AND CNG powertrains.  Its CNG version is the first CNG-powered car to get the top rating in this segment.  Tata has become a leader: this is their ninth car to be tested under Bharat NCAP, and all tested Tata cars have achieved 5 stars.

Price & Variants

The Altroz facelift starts at around ₹ 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom).  It goes up to about ₹ 11.29-11.49 lakh depending on the variant.  The 5-star rating applies to many variants — including Smart, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S, Accomplished S, and the top Accomplished+ S.

With growing awareness, car safety is now a major factor for buyers. A good crash test rating gives confidence. India’s roads have mixed conditions; features like ESC, crumple zones, airbags etc. can make a real difference in accidents. The fact that child occupant protection is very strong in Altroz means safer rides for families.

The Tata Altroz facelift does more than just look good — it keeps people safe. Thanks to its strong structural design, top-rated safety features, and excellent performance in Bharat NCAP crash tests, it is now arguably the safest premium hatchback in its class in India. If you are looking for a hatchback that cares not just about looks and comfort, but also about your safety, the Altroz is a standout choice.
