Volkswagen ID. Cross Concept: A 2026 Electric Crossover Shaping the Future

The Volkswagen ID. Cross Concept is a new five-seater electric SUV that will be launched in 2026. It is built on Volkswagen’s latest MEB+ platform, which is designed for better performance, longer range, and faster charging.

Volkswagen ID. Cross Concept – Key Specifications

Interior & Controls:

VW responded to feedback about overly digital interiors by reintroducing physical buttons for core controls. The setup includes a row of real climate buttons, steering-wheel and door button controls, and a multifunction rotary dial—blending practicality with a modern feel

The cabin features an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch central touchscreen, both aligned on a single visual axis for ergonomic coherence.

Ambience & Design

VW embraced a “lounge-style” aesthetic with a Vanilla Chai (light beige) interior, bouclé-textile finishes (dubbed “Daisy”), and fine details like Marcy stitching and fabric piping. Even the seats feature textile-covered buttons, adding a homely, high-end feel.

Ambient lighting modes and natural motifs—like plant graphics on displays and real eucalyptus leaves in the floating center console—enhance the relaxed, nature-inspired vibe.

Convenient touches include inductive charging for two phones, cup holders with modular inserts for plants or fragrance, and a ‘calm status’ mode: when the phone is placed screen-down on the charger, the displays minimize to essentials with soft nature graphics.

Design Language & Exterior

VW’s design mantra of “Pure Positive” shines through the ID. Cross, with a friendly, smiling front fascia marked by 3D LED headlight details and a horizontal, clean design. C-pillar styling nods to the Golf, while bus-inspired louvers pay tribute to VW’s heritage.

The sculpted surfaces, balanced proportions, and street presence are reinforced by custom 21-inch Balboa wheels (235/40 R21 tires), developed with Goodyear.

This concept is VW’s clear signal of moving toward affordable EVs with personality and practicality. Built on the improved MEB+ platform, it incorporates better batteries, software, and drivetrain enhancements. Production is expected to follow a reveal in 2026, aiming to expand VW’s EV footprint in Europe, with this vehicle positioned below models like the ID.4 in both size and price.
